Natural Breathing

The breath is the link between the body and the mind.  Breath affects every aspect of our being: our physical body, thoughts, attitudes, emotions and consciousness.  Natural Breathing is essential for wellness and calming the mind to meditate well.

Breathing is generally an automatic function so we don’t pay much attention to it.  As healthy babies we are born breathing naturally.  As we grow older and endure the many stresses of life, we may no longer breathe naturally and our breathing becomes inefficient.

Most people don’t breathe well enough to maintain health and wellness.   Many people experience a variety of physical disorders as a result of oxygen deprivation that show up as symptoms such as headaches, high blood pressure, and muscular aches and pain.  Practicing Natural Breathing, these symptoms often disappear.

Through breathwork we can learn to breathe naturally which increases the intake of oxygen, internally massages the organs, tissues and cells, and clears the body of toxins.  The quality of the inhalation and exhalation reveal a great deal about our attitude toward life.  Rigid beliefs and attitudes are as dangerous as restricted arteries; both impede the overall flow of energy.

The integration of natural breathing into our lives begins with learning how to sense ourselves more completely and accurately, to consciously occupy our bodies.  Since natural breathing is natural, any effort is counterproductive.  It is through natural breathing that we free our energy to respond to our actual needs of the moment and aren’t locked into old patterns.

When we breathe shallow we have a shallow experience of our self.  Becoming aware of the way our breathing changes in relation to changing circumstances, we can learn about the subtle constantly changing needs of our bodies and the impact of our emotions on our breath and well-being.  The process of natural breathing shows us the way to wholeness.  Through awareness we awaken our inner healing powers.
