Meditation
Everyone has their own definition of what meditation is and there are numerous way to practice it. Many people struggle with meditation in an attempt to quiet the mind, control thoughts, and to be physically still. They have expectations of the goals they want to accomplish during a meditation session such as to still the body or mind, open chakras, achieve altered states of consciousness, connect with spiritual or psychic powers, or become awakened and enlightened. When these goals are not met, the meditator becomes frustrated and may even give up on meditation, believing it is not possible.
Meditation techniques or methods, such as focusing on the breath or an object, may achieve the desired state of mind, but these states of mind are temporary and are lost once the meditation session comes to an end. If you have had difficulties with meditation I invite you to try a different approach. True Meditation is letting go of technique and of trying to control your experience. It is going beyond the meditator, the one who is controlling and manipulating. If you already meditate to your satisfaction, this approach can enhance your experience.
